CLAPHAM JUNCTION reunites the stars of Maurice, James Wilby and Rupert Graves, but this is no Merchant-Ivory drama. Sexually graphic, gritty and often violent, this made for British television drama takes a look at gay men in contemporary London whose lives intersect during a 36-hour period. Two men get hitched in a civil partnership ceremony, and a teenage boy confronts his ongoing obsession with his sexy, intense older neighbour. Writer Kevin Elyot creates refreshingly complex gay characters. They live everyday "normal" lives but also have a darker (and human) side as they lie to their partners, do drugs and troll public bathrooms. The brutally honest and controversial CLAPHAM JUNCTION takes stock of the state of what it means to be gay in metropolitan Britain, where there are no easy answers and the bad guys are as obvious as those committing hate crimes, and as shockingly insidious as friends at a civilized dinner party.
